30th Anniversary Tour: Brooks Williams, Phil Richardson & Aaron Catlow

Brooks Williams & Phil Richardson met in 2017 at a week-long roots music extravaganza near Colorado Springs, Colorado USA. Williams says, “The first thing I heard when I arrived at the opening session was Phil Richardson’s piano playing. It knocked me out. His piano sound is what I’ve been looking for my whole career. I got my guitar out straight-away to join in the jam. Later that evening we hatched a plan for taking this show on the road. That’s how it started. Ironic that we both had to travel nearly 5,000 miles from the UK to meet!” Richardson, a Durham native/Newcastle resident, played on Williams' 2018 album, Lucky Star, as well as on his 30th Anniversary retrospective, Work My Claim. He appeared with Williams at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival and two packed houses and a great response in May 2019. It's no surprise that New Orleans piano grooves, Piedmont guitar picking and two voices soulfully laying it down is a winning combination. Phil will be part of Brooks' 30th Anniversary UK Tour in April-May 2020. Details below.

Brooks Williams & Aaron Catlow on a tour in The Netherlands in the snowy winter of 2019. “I love the tone he gets out of his fiddle and love how he approaches playing,” says Williams. “I hear strands of folk, country, jazz, klezmer coming out of his fiddle and I knew I wanted to get him on my 30th Anniversary retrospective recording, Work My Claim, and the April-May 2020 UK Tour." Listen the interplay on Williams’ guitar and voice and Catlow's fiddle on “King of California,” “Not Haunted Anymore” or "Inland Sailor" and you'll hear a great interplay. Aaron Catlow is half of the Bristol based duo with Kit Hawes. Aaron also plays with Yola Carter, Sheelanagig and, now, Brooks Williams. Songlines calls Catlow “Fleet fingered…” R2 Magazine remarks on the “dexterity, energy and passion....." Aaron Catlow will be on the road with Brooks Williams in April-May 2020.
